Vigil — Privacy Policy

Vigil is built so that we couldn't see your data even if we wanted to. Everything the app does — reading, categorizing, summarizing, and searching your screenshots — happens entirely on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded anywhere.

What Vigil collects

Nothing. Vigil has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs. The app makes no network requests to us or to anyone else on our behalf.

How your screenshots are processed

With your permission, Vigil reads the screenshots in your photo library and indexes them using Apple's built-in, on-device machine learning: text recognition (OCR), categorization, short summaries, and semantic search. The resulting index is stored in a local database on your device and never leaves it. Deleting the app deletes the index.

Photo library access

Vigil asks for photo library access solely to index your screenshots and to carry out deletions you explicitly confirm. iOS always shows its own system confirmation before anything is deleted. Vigil never modifies your photos.

Purchases

Vigil Pro is a one-time purchase processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive no personal information about you from the transaction. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

Spotlight and widgets

If you use the search integration or the Home Screen widget, the underlying index stays on your device — these features read the same local database and share nothing externally.

Children

Vigil does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Vigil ever changes any of the above, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be called out in the App Store release notes.

Contact

Questions about privacy? Reach out through the contact form on the support page. Messages sent through it are delivered via Web3Forms, which processes only what you type into the form — never anything from the app.
